Editorial: Role of mitochondria in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Among psychiatric disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains one of the most under-diagnosed and under-treated (). No specific treatments have as of today been developed; however, PTSD has a high prevalence in the population (). When untreated, PTSD often tends to deteriorate over time. PTSD is also highly comorbid with major depression, suicidality, substance use disorder, and traumatic brain injury (TBI), which makes it even more difficult to manage therapeutically ().
